Hi Guys,

When I was doing some research on our assigned topic, I found this archive of articles in the New York Times and it helped me a lot! Click on this  and it should take you there. If any of you find something similar on a Korean news source, please post the link to it in the comments section of this post. 

I also found many useful and informative articles on The Economist's website, this list of articles about South Korea and this one specifically about Minerva and free speech in Korea. Thank you, Se Hyun, for telling me about it! I am sure that many of you know of this story from the Korean newspaper or from the internet, but I wanted to put this one up so that you can see the English vocabulary they use.

Just to clarify: The research notes you need to take are to help you write your essay and to help you verbally reply to questions in your "interview." They are supposed to be a tool for you, so put them in the format that you need them to be in. Obviously, because I cannot read Korean, your notes need to be written dominantly in English.

Homework for 10A

For this weekend, you must read "The Garden Party" on pages 14-21 of your textbook. Read this carefully because next week, you will be required to do a presentation related to this story as well as write your first analytical essay about it.

I will ask you questions about the story on Tuesday and if you do not come prepared to answer, I will give you a pop quiz.

Also-- remember to write down the words of the day that appear over the weekend.

Re-read Good Morning, Miss Dove, and write down the questions and answers to the comprehension questions in the Class Notes section of your notebook. You must do all the comprehension questions except for number 2.

STUDY TIP: In order to build your vocabulary, you should write down the vocabulary given in the vocabulary section on page 8 and then write down the definitions that are given on pages 499-525. If you do not have your textbook yet, use an online dictionary. This vocabulary will not be covered in class for a long period of time, but I may test you over it in the midterm and final.

• Read The Knights of the Silver Shield in your textbook.

A TIP: Write down the vocabulary words that you do not understand so that I can explain them to you in class. I do not normally give tests over vocabulary, but it is something that you should consistently be studying on your own.

Get your notebook and divide it into three sections: Vocabulary, Class Notes and Class Novel Notes.

Read The Knights of the Silver Shield in your Themes in Literature textbook. Be prepared to answer some questions about this story tomorrow.
