Weekend Homework for 9A

Do the comprehension questions for The Knights of the Silver Shield in your notebook. You should write the question as well as the answer in your notebook. We will check these the next time there is class.

In addition to doing this, you should also write down the words of the day during the weekend.

Journalism 11A Homework Help

Look a little further down on my website and you will find a post titled "Journalism Homework Help." This will really help you when you research our topic. Also-- REMEMBER that you are choosing three commonplaces that are RELEVANT to your arguments, not simply the first three commonplaces that pop up when you search for famous quotes about truth.

If you have difficulty reaching the New York Times articles because they require you to log in, send me an email and I will email you the classes' personal login name and password.

Have a good weekend and I hope you learn a lot about this as you study!

Journalism 11B Audio Documentary Site

Here is the link to the audio file of This American Life's audio documentary 'The Giant Pool of Money.' You should listen to at least 30 minutes of it this weekend and remember to write down key words and concepts from the program. Also, if you have questions about vocabulary, write those words down and we can go through them in class on Wednesday. Have a LOVELY weekend!

9B Homework Assignment

This weekend, write an outline for a 2 page essay answering this question:

What are some ways that you, as a young person, can be faithful in your life? How can doing those things benefit you now? How can those things prepare you for the future?

Your essay should be divided into three sections:

1. Introduction (with thesis statement)

2. Body

3. Conclusion

In your outline, you should write down the topic sentences of each section or paragraph within your essay so that you can have a clear framework set up for when you write your essay, and the paragraphs within your body should directly relate to the thesis statement in your introduction.

I will give you further instruction about this in class next week.

The first draft of your essay will be due March 9th.

* Many of you have asked about the meaning of faithful: I want you to write about how you can stay COMMITTED to different things in your life at this moment. I recommend that you write about being faithful in several different areas of your life, not simply just one area.

For example, some of you may want to stay committed to studying English, even though it is difficult for you, because you know that someday, it will benefit you to be bilingual.

Some of you may want to focus on being faithful to God. It is easy to follow God when everything in your life is going perfectly, but it takes real focus and commitment to stay faithful when sad or difficult things happen. Maybe some of you want to practice being faithful to Him even when your life is not easy.

10A Weekend Homework

Read The Garden Party on pages 14-21 of your textbook. Read this story very thoroughly because you will be required to make a presentation about this short story as well as write your first analytical essay about it.

10B Weekend Homework

Re-read Good Morning, Miss Dove, and write down the questions and answers to the comprehension questions in the Class Notes section of your notebook. You must do all the comprehension questions except for number 2.

STUDY TIP: In order to build your vocabulary, you should write down the vocabulary given in the vocabulary section on page 8 and then write down the definitions that are given on pages 499-525. If you do not have your textbook yet, use an online dictionary. This vocabulary will not be covered in class for a long period of time, but I may test you over it in the midterm and final.

In addition to doing these comprehension questions, read "The Garden Party" on pages 14-21 of your textbook over the weekend. We will be working in-depth with this story so the more you read it, the easier the next few assignments will be for you.

9B Homework

Do all the comprehension questions for The Knights of the Silver Shield in the "Class Notes" section of your notebook. You should write both the question and the answer down so that you can study from your notes more easily. We will be checking these in class tomorrow!
