Due Monday 6/22:

POEM POSTER PROJECT
You must write a poem that is at least 15 lines long. This poem must be presented artistically on a poster or colored piece of paper. This poem must contain at least two of the poetic terms that I taught you. However, the poetic terms must be used throughout the poem, not just in one line.

This assignment is worth 25 points.

Rubric
Spelling, Grammar, and Length of the poem ___/5
The use of poetic terms/figurative language throughout the poem __/10
At least two poetic terms (i.e. metaphor, simile, imagery, refrain, symbol etc.)
The poem has a clear and intentional theme.

The artistic and creative visual presentation of the poem: ___/10
It should be bigger than an A4 piece of paper. It should be colorful. Its design should be related to the meaning of the poem.

Questions for Oedipus the King p.234-251

I'm sorry this got posted so late. Hopefully it will guide your reading!

Answer each question thoroughly, thoughtfully, and in complete sentence. Provide a page and line reference for each answer.

1. What horrible news does the messenger bring to the Chorus about Jocasta?

2. According to the messenger, how did Jocasta die? Give specific details.

3. When Oedipus saw the body of Jocasta, how did he respond? Be specific. What horrible thing did he do to himself?

4. When Oedipus finally comes out of the palace doors, how does the Chorus respond?

5. What imagery does Oedipus use to describe the pain that he feels? What are the two sources of his pain, and how is this related to the imagery that he uses?

6. According to Oedipus, what drove Oedipus to stab out his eyes? What reason does he give?

7. Who does Oedipus curse after he blinds himself? Why does he wish that this person would die?

17. What are Oedipus's last words to his children and what is the final prayer that he prays over them?

18. What is the final decision that Creon comes to concerning Oedipus's punishment? Who is really behind choosing this punishment?

19. When Creon tells Oedipus that he must let go of his children, Oedipus does not want to and he cries out-- what does Creon remind Oedipus after he hears him say "Don't take them away from me!"?
