9B Homework Assignment

  • Make sure you read my clarifications about the essay assignment on this website. Come to class on Wednesday with any questions you might have.

  • Read "The Charge of the Light Brigade" on pages 93 and 94 of your textbook. We will not work on this tomorrow or Wednesday, but it's good to read it several times and underline vocabulary words you don't understand.

On Wednesday, we will be working on an in class project. For the class project, I want you to make a shield that symbolizes what kind of person you want to be in the future, so start thinking about how you will design your shield so that on Wednesday, you can make them without too much stress.

Here is a website that can help you with ideas about what pictures your shield will have on it. On the left hand side is a column of colors and symbols, and on the right hand side is their traditional meaning. A long time ago, knights used to wear shields with these symbols on them, and each of those symbols had a specific meaning!

Here is how you can use the website: If you wanted to make a shield that could symbolically represent how you wanted to be truthful and loyal, you would choose the color blue for you shield, since blue has that meaning. If you wanted to also show that you want to be a strong person in the future, you could choose to draw antlers (the horns of a deer), a bear, or a lion.
